The PolyWise Ultra - Aluminum Oxide can be used with our PolyWise Ultra product in order to get anti-slip properties and get better abrasion resistance.

Equipment Needed: Aluminum Oxide or Polypropylene Beads, Polyaspartic, Flat-blade squeegee, 18 inch ⅜ knap roller, nitrile gloves, P-100 respirator

Aluminum oxide-appropriate grit size, typically 36-240 mesh

Polypropylene beads-specific size depending on desired texture, typically 50-100

Polyaspartic topcoat-Polywise Polyaspartic applied at 8mils

Procedure:

1. Introduction:

This SOP is going to ensure the proper broadcast of either Polypropylene Beads or Aluminum Oxide into an already rolled out topcoat. This procedure will start with the assumption that the topcoat has already been rolled.

2. Procedure Steps:

   a. Once your floor is scraped and you’ve applied the topcoat, immediately fill up a pint cup with whatever grit additive you’re using. About 10 ounces per 100sq ft is adequate but can be adjusted depending on how much traction the customer wants.

   b. After backrolling is complete, hand broadcast your cup of grit to where you first started your backroll. Start from one side of the floor and work your way to the other by taking small handfuls of grit additive, and broadcast up into the air  like you would flake. It’s important to take smaller handfuls that way the grit doesn’t fall through your fingers and clump on the floor. Doing so will prevent you from being able to roll it out.

   c. After you’ve completed a row, take a couple steps back and now go the other way with your broadcast. This will ensure that you’re covering 100% of the floor and equally dispersing grit additive. Repeat this process of going back and forth until you’re halfway through the garage.

    d. Once halfway through, have your roller go back and “M and W” the grit into the topcoat to ensure it’s actually rolled into the topcoat. One pass back and forth will suffice, make sure to not overwork it. Once rolled out, proceed to go back to your starting point and do a wall to wall finish roll to eliminate any lanes as well as do a final push of the grit into the topcoat.

    e. Once you’ve reached your halfway point, finishing broadcasting your grit to the last half of the garage and repeat the above steps by re-rolling and ending with a finish roll

3. Safety Precautions:

  • Always wear PPE to protect against skin and eye irritation.

  • Ensure good ventilation in the working area to avoid inhalation of dust or fumes.

4. Quality Control Checks:

  •    Conduct a visual inspection of the finished surface for uniformity and texture.

  • Use your finger after your finish roll to see if the desired texture has been achieved, what you feel will be what it feels like after it’s cured.

  • Allow 24 hours before the floor is walked on so as to not disturb the grit and give it a chance to properly set up in the topcoat.

Troubleshooting/Problem Solving:

If texture is lost over time, simply screen the topcoat with a swing arm buffer and 60 grit pad until texture becomes smooth. Vacuum all excess dust and follow with an acetone mop to collect all micro particles. Once done, apply another topcoat, and rebroadcast the grit additive as stated above.

Maintenance:

It is recommended that once cured, the area is cleaned once or twice a month with a  PH balanced soap, such as Simple Green. Dilute 4-1 with water in a mop bucket, and clean the floor with a mop. Be sure to wring the mop out so as to not puddle the floor.

Training Requirements:

Standard training that’s received by a Wise Coatings Technician.
